AFC is one of the leading companies in the field of the production and marketing of Nitrogenous fertilizers in Egypt. Environment is one of the most important priorities due to its direct effect on the whole community.

Regarding the company ecological commitment plan, under the environmental law no.4, issued on 1994, AFC has provided all human and financial resources to cope with these demands through some ambitious ecological projects. Most of these projects have been established while some are still under construction

Ecological implemented projects reached 10 projects with a total cost of L.E. 246 millions (direct cost), in addition to the indirect cost which comes from ecological project implemented for Abu Qir Plant II to solve environmental problems that are caused by Abu Qir Plant I, which was established 30 years ago.

These projects include establishing environmental monitoring stations round the clock, fences along the plants, in addition to a hi-tech mobile environmental monitoring station and many other projects aiming at decreasing the ratio of gas revival, the best water consumption and developing environmental analysis labs and so on.

Realizing the importance of preserving a clean surrounding environment and according to the international agreements in this respect, AFC has concluded an agreement with an Austrian company (Carbon) to install a unit to eliminate emissions of N2O gas from the Nitric Acid Plant in Abu Qir II using Clean Development Mechanism technology (CDM) supplied by Uhde Germany. In return, AFC issues a Carbon credit certification in accordance with Kyoto agreement.
